Hot wires are usually made up of tungsten as the electrical resistance is dependent on the temperature of the metal. A hot wire anemometer can be classified into three separate hot wire devices; CCA (constant current anemometer), CVA (constant voltage anemometer) and CTA (constant temperature anemometer). A circuit within these hot wire anemometer devices stabilizes the variables thus resulting in the voltage output. A hot wire anemometer is delicate but at the same time has a high-frequency response as compared to other measuring tools.
